1. Boarding Pass

A document provided by an airline during check-in, giving a passenger permission to enter the restricted area of an airport and to board the airplane for a particular flight.

  • Example: “Make sure to print your boarding pass before heading to the airport.”

2. Gate

The area in an airport where passengers gather before boarding the aircraft.

  • Example: “Your flight will depart from Gate 14B.”

3. Terminal

A building at an airport where passengers transfer between ground transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from airplanes.

  • Example: “The international terminal is located at the north end of the airport.”

4. Check-in

The process where passengers confirm their presence on a flight and typically check their luggage.

  • Example: “We need to check in at least two hours before our flight.”

5. Security Checkpoint

An area where passengers are screened for prohibited items before entering the departure area.

  • Example: “Be sure to remove your shoes and place them in the bin at the security checkpoint.”

6. Departure Lounge

An area where passengers wait before boarding their flight.

  • Example: “Let’s relax in the departure lounge until our flight is called.”

7. Baggage Claim

The area in an airport where arriving passengers collect their checked baggage.

  • Example: “Our baggage claim carousel number is 5.”

8. Customs

A place where travelers’ belongings are inspected upon entry into a country to ensure compliance with laws regarding restricted or prohibited items.

  • Example: “We have to go through customs after we land in Tokyo.”

9. Immigration

The process where officials check travelers’ documents to verify their eligibility to enter a country.

  • Example: “After we land, we need to go through immigration.”

10. Layover

A period of time when a passenger must wait at the airport before boarding a connecting flight.

11. Connecting Flight

12. Runway

21. Duty-Free

22. Final Boarding Call

The last announcement made to inform passengers that they must board the aircraft immediately.

23. Luggage Tag

A tag attached to luggage for identification purposes.

  • Example: “Keep your luggage tag safe in case your bag gets lost.”

24. Overhead Bin

The storage compartments located above passenger seats on an aircraft.

  • Example: “Please stow your carry-on luggage in the overhead bin.”

25. Ground Staff

Airport personnel who assist with various tasks on the ground, such as check-in and baggage handling.

  • Example: “The ground staff will help you with any questions you have.”

26. Cabin Crew

Flight attendants who ensure passenger safety and comfort during the flight.

  • Example: “The cabin crew will be serving drinks shortly after takeoff.”

27. First Class

The most luxurious seating section on an aircraft, offering premium services and amenities.

28. Economy Class

29. Cockpit
